Wimbledon: Inspired Muguruza Steamrollers Venus Williams

Garbine Muguruza became the first Spanish woman since Conchita Martinez in 1994 to lay her hands on the fabled Venus Rosewater dish when she blew off Venus Williams 7-5, 6-0 in the final.

She was denied by Venus' sister in 2015 but there was no denying Muguruza this time who lifted her second Grand Slam title.

Venus, who was bidding to win her sixth Wimbledon singles title at the age of 37, started the better and looked to be calm and composed. However, Muguruza, who ironically began with a double fault, gradually gathered steam as the set went by.

Venus did have two set points in the 10th game of the first set but Muguruza found her range to save them and then go on to break Venus. Her ballistic forehands were no match for the American who started to show uncharacteristic nerves and ended up losing the first set.

All those who expected a backlash from the five-time champion were surprised by how the second set panned out.

Muguruza came out even more determined while errors started to creep in to Venus' game as she lost her serve and her plot, failing to win a single game in the final set, with the Spaniard helping herself to a bagel.
